Interview with Todd Jewell
Twinlab sat down with body builder and Team Fuel member Todd Jewell to ask him a few questions about his workout strategies and training regimen.
Twinlab: If you had to choose a favorite exercise, what would it be?
Todd: My favorite exercise changes all the time. At the moment I have become a huge fan of one-arm dumbbell rows to develop my back muscles. For many years I didn’t like this exercise because I was performing it incorrectly. During contest prep in 2009, I figured out how to do the exercise properly to make it work for me.
Twinlab: Is there an exercise you really dread?
Todd: Oddly enough, the one-arm dumbbell row is both my favorite exercise at the moment, as well as the exercise I dread the most. That’s because when performed correctly, it is a very demanding exercise. It takes a lot of mental focus to prepare myself for a back workout.
Twinlab: What’s your recovery strategy after a workout?
Todd: After a workout, I immediately consume a post-workout shake consisting of 1 serving of Twinlab® Ultra Fuel® and 1 ½ servings of Twinlab 100% Whey Protein Fuel®. Then I get as much rest as possible, and wait another week before I train that body part again.
Twinlab: How do you get past plateaus in your training?
Todd: Whenever I hit a plateau, I take a week off from training to just relax and let my body rest. The layout of my workouts is all done by instinct; I don’t plan much of it out. I just go with what feels right at the time. Every workout is a little different, so I don’t hit plateaus very often. This training style has allowed me to continue to improve from year to year.
