2009 International Federation of Body Building Championships

On August 28-29, Cleveland, Ohio hosted the 2009 International Federation of Body Building’s North American Championships. This prestigious event features the best of the best in body building as well as figure, fitness and bikini competition; you have to place among the top competitors at a national qualifying contest in order to be eligible for this event. And the stakes are high – this competition gives you the opportunity to compete for a chance to obtain a pro card and earn the title of “IFBB Pro.”

Although I have to admit that I wish I had placed higher in the rankings, I did end up earning 4th place in a very competitive class, the Super-Heavyweight Class. And there are definitely some positive things I took away from this event. I have finally emerged as a top contender in North America, and am finally being compared to the top dogs in my weight class, which is very exciting.

This event also helped me to perfect my “dialing in” process for the final week before a show. I take detailed notes on everything that I do, and have a very simple, yet thorough, routine that I follow for every competition. So from now on, I’ll be at 100% every time I step on stage.

Finally, it was great to be acknowledged for my complete physique, and recognized as one of the largest competitors in the NPC (National Physique Committee). And I was definitely the largest of the top five competitors in my class at the championships.

Though I wasn’t able to bring home the pro card at this event, I’m confident that if I keep working hard, it’ll happen for me next year!
